Vic Mitchell continues his survey of narrow gauge railways by taking an in-depth look at the Corris and Vale of Rheidol Railways.
The Corris Railway went northwards from Machynlleth into the Cambrian mountains whilst the Vale of Rheidol Railway goes Eastwards into the mountains to Devils Bridge.
Both owe their origins to the abundance of slate quarries, and both found their way into Great Western Railway ownership and whilst the VoR survives as a tourist railway, the Corris Railway closed in 1948. A preservation society is now based in Maespoeth and is gradually rebuilding parts of the line.
The book shows pictures and plans of the two lines throughout their lives to the present day.
