The long awaited second volume from Oakwood on the Burry Port & Gwendreath Valley Railway and its antecedant canals has been produced by RW Miller following the untimely death of original author Ray Bowen.

A long awaited update of Stanley Jenkins' book on the Watford to St Albans branch from Oakwood Press.
It was opened by the LNWR in May 1858. The line prospered with good passenger receipts and a wide range of freight. Although considered for closure by Beeching, it survived to gain electrification in 1988 and new housing along the route has given a revival of fortune for this once rural branch line. Originally published in 1990 this updated edition of the book covers the history and operation of this important route.

This follows on from the volume last year on Lawson Billinton, his son.
Robert took up an engineering apprenticeship at the age of 14 gaining wide experience in the design and construction of locomotives, stationary boilers and steam cranes. He became head draughtsman at Brighton, then moved to a similar position at Derby. Upon the death of William Stroudley, Billinton was appointed Locomotive, Carriage & Wagon Superintendent of the LBSCR.

The latest book from Oakwood Press is an interesting study of the events surrounding one of Britain's deadliest rail accidents at St Johns where an express from Charing Cross to Ramsgate in heavy fog ploughed into the rear of a stationary electric train bound for Hayes dislodging the supports of an overbridge which then collapsed on the wreckage.
