Originally published by the Oxford Publishing Co. in 1986, 'The History of Great Western A.E.C. Diesel Railcars' by C.W. Judge has long been regarded as the definitive work on the subject. This book has been unobtainable for many years but is now re-released as a limited edition reprint and in response to a growing demand.

The book commences with an overview of how the internal combustion engine came to be used for railway purposes and leading to the successful introduction of the series of GWR diesel railcars from the 1930s onwards.

Much material is drawn from official sources, many now no longer accessible, likewise the illustrations depict the vehicles in various stages of life including mechanical and interior views. Drawings and details of workings are also included.
